Damien Lewis is a bestselling British author renowned for his meticulously researched works on special forces, particularly the Special Air Service (SAS) during World War II. With a background in investigative journalism and war correspondence, Lewis brings authenticity and narrative intensity to his historical accounts.

His notable books—including SAS Band of Brothers, SAS Ghost Patrol, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, and SAS Bravo Three Zero—draw from declassified archives, personal diaries, and interviews with veterans and their families. These works offer gripping accounts of covert operations and acts of immense bravery during WWII and beyond.

Beyond his literary contributions, Lewis has been an invaluable supporter of The Log Book Project. In 2023, he undertook extensive travel, covering over 500 miles, to connect us with distinguished signatories and their legacies. Notably, he facilitated the acquisition of signatures from:

  • Alec Borrie, a veteran of the 1st SAS Regiment, who served behind enemy lines leading up to D-Day.
  • Fiona Ferguson, niece of Lt. Col. Robert Blair “Paddy” Mayne, a founding member of the SAS and one of Britain’s most decorated soldiers.
  • Catherine Cary-Elwes, daughter of Lt. Col. Oswald Cary-Elwes, known for his daring missions, including Operation Lost and the rescue of escaped Allied POWs in Italy.

Lewis’s dedication and generosity have significantly enriched The Log Book Project, embodying the spirit of our Kindred Allies.
